Tattoo and Body Piercing FAQs
If you have any questions not
covered on this page, send us an email with the questions and we
will post an answer. Please pay close attention to question 2.
General
-
How old do I have to be?
-
Each state has laws governing age limitations on tattooing and
body piercing. In Illinois, you must be 18. There is no parental
consent clause for tattooing, but some piercings can be done with
parental consent on minors. At Karma Tattoos & Body Piercing we
require photo ID for all clients, and anyone under 18 who wishes to
be pierced must have in-person parental consent. If your last names
are different, documentation is required to prove relationship.
-
How much will it cost?
-
Pricing is determined at the
discretion of your artist/piercist. There are many factors
that influence the cost, including placement, size, and detail.
You may get different price quotes from different shops, but
remember that
you get what you pay for!
Do not send me pictures and descriptions asking for a price. I
will not give prices via email.
-
Will it hurt?
-
Yes. Different people have different pain thresholds, and
different parts of the body have different densities of nerves, so
it is impossible to predict how much it will hurt. Many
people have multiple tattoos, though, so it obviously is tolerable
and worth it!
-
Can I get a tattoo or piercing if I
am sick or have a medical condition?
It is
generally not a good idea to get tattooed or pierced if your immune
system is not 100% because of the healing process involved
afterward. Our release forms require you to inform us of any conditions you may have or
medications you may be taking. For example, a tattoo or piercing
should not be performed on broken/wounded skin or on someone taking
blood thinning medication. Your artist/piercist can discuss the
risks involved for you or may not be able to perform the procedure
at all. Please be honest and ask questions.
-
What if I have been drinking or
have taken drugs?
- Karma Tattoos & Body Piercing will not tattoo or pierce anyone
under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Not only can your judgment
be impaired, your ability to heal may also be compromised.
